Located in Jakarta—a city defined by its distinctive geography, fluctuating humidity, and high levels of urban pollution—the Jagakarsa House was designed by Somia with a keen sensitivity to its environment. Rather than fighting the elements, the design embraces tropical building principles, meticulously selecting finishes and materials that respond to the local climate rather than succumbing to it.

A Breath of Fresh Air

To combat the density and heat of the city, the home utilizes several key architectural strategies:

Passive Cooling: Maximizing cross-ventilation ensures that the humid Jakarta air remains in constant motion, naturally cooling the interior.

Light Calibration: Building openings for every room are optimized to harvest natural light while effectively controlling sunlight and heat gain.

The Green Buffer: Lush greenery is integrated into the architecture, not merely for ornament, but to shade the structure and enrich the air quality.

The result is a residence that breathes. By balancing technical precision with deep empathy for the inhabitant's lifestyle, the Jagakarsa House proves that sustainable design and personal luxury are not just compatible—they are inseparable.
