Peacefully embedded with the eye adoring view of vast rice field scenery, hidden from the crowds and urban density of the city. Buwit escaped purposely meant to not only as a healing retreat, but also a transforming journey that guide people to experience the essence of Balinese vernacular and tradition. This concept is driven by how to respond the surrounding context of the site. To respect and admire, Somia aim to preserve the context by elevate this architectural story telling strategy.
With the relatively vast 3100 sqm land area, we envisioning a breathable and spacious configuration that enhance the narrative of the design. Making the floor area significantly less compare to the total land area. The process followed by dividing the site based on the functions and spaces needed, and from that sequences we try to curate the narrative of the journey into something theatrical. A performance that guide the earthly people into the trip of healing through the architecture. The following episodes starts from:
1.A Black White Canvas - Entrance
When the visitors arrive, people will be welcome by a solid simple horizontal wall of an entrance with “gebyok” door in the middle. This gesture aiming to give the impression of grounded, mystery. Focusing the contrast to the humble door that completely conceal the attraction behind it, and leaving the visitors with the feeling of curiosity and wonder
2.The Center Platform - Wantilan Area
After entering inside, visitor will be facing a vast green scape that organically path its way focusing to the ”wantilan” building that functioned as a communal gathering platform. In this sequence, the perception of solid and horizontal are diffused by the organic landscaping. Means that life is not linear path, but a dynamic and organic journey to be lived through. And the communal “wantilan” in the center represent human as a social being that will walk through it together.
3.Civilization - Compound Villas
Followed after the wantilan building, visitor entering the compound villa area. The design impressing the gesture and ambience of the traditional Balinese Village that reflect the civilization with humble way of living, secluded from the earthly and materialistic way of living.
4.Fulfillment - Facilities Area
On the end sequence of the design, the visitor will be welcome with the compound facilities of long dining and communal area, yoga & meditating area, and a sea salt water pool with the view of the large continuous rice field. This is implying to the end goals of entering a deeper spiritual journey as a human.
