The land is located in the center of Denpasar city, 300 meters from the central area of the Bali provincial government office. The area around the site is a relatively quiet residential environment far from the noise of urban activities.

BA House is a single 2-story building that functions as a residence, formed by each occupant's character and daily life's demands.

The owner was born in Bali but has long lived in Jakarta. He has many memories and nostalgia for his hometown, especially the authentic worship building, which has the character of Balinese buildings, using red brick and terracotta materials.

BA House focuses on three factors and approaches in design:

  • context to the characteristics of the surrounding development
  • the typology of a tropical building
  • the owner's old nostalgia

Heterogeneous building & environmental characteristics, modern urban life, 2-story residential buildings with designs following the times. Medium density intensity and low environmental noise due to the distance to the protocol road is quite far.

BA house adopts a tropical architectural style that has been developed by considering tropical climate conditions. This style accommodates hot and humid weather and provides coolness and comfort for its occupants during the rainy and hot seasons.

Another development focuses on using building materials resistant to high temperatures and providing good air circulation.

In a building, the occupants demand a space program to accommodate their daily activities.

BA House has four bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. One bedroom is arranged to be placed on the ground floor and given to the parents. The shared or communal space is mainly on the ground floor, but an entertainment room and yoga platform are arranged on the 2nd floor as a bedroom accommodation space.

But from all that, there is a special hope by the owner for nostalgia for the character of traditional Balinese buildings. It is known and agreed that the building must be low maintenance and practical for everyday use. Still following the typology of a traditional Balinese building: "Head, Body, and Feet" is the balance of the composition & proportion of the building. Another thing we do is "ornamental simplification without eliminating traditional meaning"; the execution of simplification forms the character of a contemporary building in terms of accentuation and visuals.

The selection of 1 color material forms a strong character in the building—the integrity of the exterior and interior forms the harmony of the color's nature. The use of red brick or terracotta soil base material is a form of local wisdom, as a local traditional building shows the primary material used.

Another hope is to form harmony and extra warmth from the nature of the color.
